The Evening Anus will be shining a light into the dark back passage which dumps shit into the community in Brighton & Hove and further afield. This blog gets its title from the long standing nickname for the local newspaper in Sussex, now known as The Argus (formerly known as The Evening Argus – thus the nickname), which routinely serves up the sloppiest ‘journalism’ imaginable.
Brighton & Hove deserves better, much better. Famous for being the party town of the country, our City also has the highest educated population. The Argus has always been a stable of lazy reportage biased in favour of the Conservative Party but in recent years it has thrown away any pretensions at being a real newspaper. Its quality has been in terminal decline. This blog aims to kick away whatever life support system sustains it and allow it to die.
The Argus is privately owned by Newsquest Media Group, which is itself owned by Gannett Co. Inc, an American publicly traded media holding company. The Argus sells about 25,000 copies across Sussex. Enquiries, about its circulation inside Brighton & Hove, to its advertising contact have resulted (to date) in no reply. Its circulation has been steadily dropping over the years, in keeping with the fortunes of many regional newspapers in the UK. It dropped by 5.9% in 2011.
